if the power goes out, your pumps will not be working.

Time to pull out a couple of buckets, fill with water and set them next to the toilet for flushing.

We feed all our critters early, so they can be set for the evening.

The most important thing in life is not knowing everything, it's having the phone number of somebody who does!

We are now CODE RED......

Ley Seca is in effect, the bridge and the tunnel are closed........, and the last ferry leaves in 10 minutes!

Closest Point of Approach (CPA): Results for Cozumel, Mexico (20.44N, 86.93W):
The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is located near 20.3N, 86.2W or about 48.3 miles (77.7 km) from your location. The estimated time of when the center of the storm will be at that location is in about 12.3 hours (Wednesday, October 13 at 4:18AM CDT).

CODE BLUE HERE: Tramadol and Valium. The last time I saw the reliable wind distance and quadrants, I had the closest point at 25 miles this morning. At that time hurricane force winds were extending out ten miles to the east, but only about 250 feet to the west. If it stays on the present track, the strongest gusts might be between 1:00-2:00AM as the storm is still to the south and we'd be feeling the advance counter clockwise bands (the strongest) of the northeast quadrant ahead of the center.

I think we'll be fine, but I would not suggest a quick boat trip to Western Cuba for the next few days.

about an hour ago a friend told me that he was on the other side gathering his things from his store over there and the surfers were pulled out of the water (figuratively) around 4pm. when he left shortly thereafter, the waves were about 4 meters high.
seems a million miles away since it is relatively calm here on this side.
