We've got a place on Cozumel and will be returning on Christmas Day. I haven't thought about what grocery stores or restaurants might be open that day. Want to make sure if we can't go shopping we can go get a meal at a restaurant. Any ideas?

The grocery stores will be open, but they may have slightly reduced hours. Some stores will close a little earlier on Christmas Eve, La Noche Buena which is the important family meal. Dinner typically starts around 2:00AM, after midnight Mass and goes often until or past dawn. A lot of people show up late to work on Christmas day and with little sleep. My guess is most all "tourist" restaurants will be open Christmas day, some may close earlier Christmas Eve. The last few years the big supermarkets have had close to normal hours, but might not be fully staffed, might be short in the bakery and deli sections. Since it is a Saturday, all the cruise ship stores will be open and pretty much business as usual.

As Charles says, the big groceries will be open on Christmas Day but prolly not open until 11 AM or so. Forget eating out on Christmas Eve unless you want to eat at 5 PM. Christmas Day there will be a few restaurants serving dinner. I think Guidos is open and possibly Rock 'n Java. But you should be able to get decent stuff from the grocery stores.
