Please everyone. It is Cozumel, with the first syllable rhyming with nose, not cause.

After listening to the ads on the new English language radio station yesterday, I felt this needs to be mentioned.

Or maybe it's just the gloomy weather?

I'm sure locals will appreciate it.

Airline employees all say CAUSE-uh-mehl, unless they're Mexicans, of course. Drives me crazy, too.

Coh-sue-MEHL. Coh rhymes with GO. Accent on LAST syllable.

This has long been a source of irritation for me as well. Perhaps your magazine could start with a short article about this Michael! You could also make the suggestion that people not wear their string bikinis and Speedos to go shopping in town. That makes me nuts as well. Would they do that back in the states? Doubt it!

Wow! Felt good to get that out! LOL

Hey, ok, first everyone said they loved the speedo....

And second, Try this:

Shorten the word and use the sentence, "Man, I love Coz"

Say it the wrong way and then the right way.

Then admit it sounds better the wrong way.

The right way almost sounds dirty or something..... :P

Just lack of respect when people where swimwear in town. But there is a lot of that going around all over the Place. I guess it is how you were raised.

I have to admit I say it wrong when speaking english and correctly when speaking spanish.
Much like the city Merida
But I am from Arkansas and we don't got much book learning there.

On the subject of swim wear in town I agree cover it up even if you have a great body.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.

I get Cozumel right, but it took me a while to pronounce Quintana Roo right.... Kin-tana Row, not Quin-tana Roo, as in Kanga. :D

Ron,

The speedo joke would be funnier if you knew me. And so comfortable when I am retrieving items from the bottom shelf at Mega.... Oh, also, do you know any place in town where I can get my back waxed while I am in there in my speedo?

And if you don't like my "Coz", you will be horrified when I read a menu.....

Gringo wearing Speedo and half T-shirt in equites line.... Now I know where to sit so I can see you with no problem. So, shall I expect a 6-pack between the T & the Speedo? Posted Image

Yes for those whose first language is english the pronunciations can be very subtle. The one I find very funny is pronouncing the "ex" in exito as "egg". I hear this often. I think that is a difficult one for americanos. For us the "th" sound is a very difficult one.

Oops! I am definitely guilty of that one. So it's pronounced ES-thee-toe?

Me disculpas. Sorry I am new here so I do not want to be correcting anyone. I myself have many difficulties with many english words. I do not know how to spell it out for you phonetically in english but I will check. The ekis or "X" is sort of complicated because it has various pronunciations. Whether it is words like xula or exito or in mayan like Xcaret. It can be a little difficult. For me the "th" sound is very hard to pronounce as in "theater". We say teatro. The ekis in exito would be more lke the sound in exit in english but the difference is the "e" is pronounced as a long "a" in english and the "i" is pronounced as a long "e". Hope that makes sense.
