Sure Paula...When do you want to go? You will get off cheap in Belize as you won't have to buy me beer and ice. It will probably be rum and coke and rum is cheap in Belize.

Do you want the islanda or the mainland?

geez, I don't know what 'Do you want the islanda or the mainland?' means...

We also need to find somebody to stay at the house while where gone to take care of our critters. I would truly LOVE to blow this sand box for a few days.

Hmmm, I have been a professional pet sitter for nearly 12 years. Perhaps we could work out a trade situation one of these days.

Steve, lots of questions for you on your travels to Belize.

I guess the simple question is (if you don't have a car, or a driver) how to get to Belize?

Can you enjoy Belize (like you do) in just a couple of days?

It's getting close to your arrival, and we are very interested.

Paula...Going to Ambergris or Caye Caulker you don't need a car. For the mainland I would recommend having one.

You can take a bus from Playa to Chetumal for around $560 pesos. Take a cab from the bus station to the pier $50 pesos than a water taxi over to Ambergris $300 pesos. Bus is around 4 hours and water taxi is around 2 hours.

You clear customs at the pier in Chetumal than again when you arrive in Ambergris.

The exchange rate is $2 Belize for #1 US.

Water taxi from Ambergris to Caye Caulker is between $25 and $30 Belize and takes about 25 minutes.

Lots of restaurants, bars, and shops on both islands.

To go to the mainland I would have to see what has to be done to get the Explorer papers up to date. I would need Uncle John with for that as we have the Explorer in his name.

Here is a good forum I go to if you want to do a little research on Belize: http://www.belizeforum.com/belize/

Info courtesy of Cary Butler:

Leave from the Playa del Carmen downtown Bus terminal to Chetumal. Then take a short taxi ride to the "Water Taxi" that goes directly to San Pedro, Belize (Ambergris Caye). The trip on the small Water Taxi was about $35-40 US and there are 2 companies that go a few times a day. I have also taken the puddle jumper plane from Corozal, (Belize mainland), but the new Water Taxi company was much easier and less costly. The Water Taxi is small (maybe 30 people or so) and took about an hour and half from Chetumal, but worked out just fine. The customs agent is right at the water ferry pier, so take your passport and you're on your way. One Water Taxi docks on the east side and the other on the west side, but no matter as the island is very narrow and a golf cart cab ride will take you where you need to go.
