I have gotten wood shavings from Maderas del Carib shop on 30th.

If you bring a large garbage bag it was 10p's a bag.

My only concern would be attracting termite because the wood is not treated.

I have been looking for years for Gorilla Hair which is shredded coconut husk, but have never had any luck here.

I do used the 'burlap' type bark that coconut palms produce to wrap my orchids roots in. I make a loose pocket, similar to how you would do a diaper, add a tiny bit of charcoal, then wrap it up with twine.

That method has not failed yet.

The most important thing in life is not knowing everything, it's having the phone number of somebody who does!

Check Vivero Las Flores on the Transversal. It sells orchids and I believe it stocks orchid-growing media and supports. If you have any spreading epiphyte, you may tie it to a substantial branch (connected to a tree or not) or to the trunk or in an elbow of a tree and the roots will creep into the bark and support it after a while.
