Could someone please post the route (old road vs new road) and what intersections will be closed during Ironman event. Also the times of closures, and reopen.

I am particularly interested in the intersection at the International Pier and the road that runs to 65.

Perhaps only one side of the road will be closed for this cross over point to get back and forth into and out of town.

Thanks, and good luck to the participants.

Thank Ginga...think I'll just stay home that day and wave flags as the participants fly by.

nothing is in stone yet regarding old road vs new road. we are begging officials to allow us to use the old road for a variety of reasons, not just smoothness. i am supposed to be meeting with the coordinators tuesday and hopefully we can convince them to make the route the old road.
for those of you who are not cyclists who are interested in our reasons, the 25km of rough road from puerta maya to punta sur will lead to:
more flats
loosening of connections on bikes, especially carbon fiber, causing loss of control and possible crashes
horrible road rash that will shread our skin if we fall
slower times
very hard 3rd loop as you are tired and go slower, making the roughness beat harder
complaints from participants
overall abuse to the bike.

keep your fingers crossed!
