We had a wonderful Christmas and my daughters wedding on that day was awesome. I handed out bags of birdseed before the ceremony and f to ound that none of my Mexican friends understood why birdseed instesd of rice. I explained that the rice harms the birds and then they understood. So PLEASE if you have the honor of helping with a wedding here in Mexico, explain to your friends that it is better to throw birdseen than rice.

your right, rice is not thrown, nor is birdseed. It attracts pigeons and rodents.

Blowing bubbles, or rose peddles being used are most acceptable today.

Rice being bad for birds is an old urban legend that has been around for some time.

I will agree the rats love it though.

learn something new every day..."Most of the wedding planning organizations say that the main reason for not using rice is because there is too much of a risk of people slipping on it and falling".
Birdseed would have the same results is my guess.

Besides, both rice and seed would be nasty in the hair and clothing.

Pelt me with rose peddles.

Congrats on your daughters marriage.

Gracias. The birdseed worked fine since it was in my front garden. It was all swept into the garden and when I came home after 2 days in Cancun there was none left in sight. LOL the only ones who suffered the seed in thier hair was my daughter and her husband, but no complaints...they were just to happy!
