What is the best option to call long distance from Cozumel to the US?  Is Magic Jack a good option?  Are there others?

I've used Magic Jack for years.  It works, and it's cheap.

You can call 800 numbers, no problem.

Forgot, Magic Jack can be loaded on your smart phone.

The most important thing in life is not knowing everything, it's having the phone number of somebody who does!

If you have a smartphone or a computer download Skype app. Load $10 on it and your set.  Will work wherever there is WiFi.  It's no more than 3 cents a minute to the US.

I have Skype and so does some of my family and friends, but my mother does not own a computer....she is in her 80s and does not care for one.

If Magic Jack works with landlines, then I am ok....... :D

Thanks,

I have 3 or 4 Magic Jacks now and don't have any problems with them at all. The one I have in Mexico has to have a computer on all the time in order to receive phone calls. I have had it down there for 4 years now but once my time is used up I will purchase another one. They have the newer version that has the computer built in so all you need is an internet connection. I think I purchased the on I use for my home line in the states for $184 with 5 years of service. It's a great option and works well.

As long as you have either money in your Skype account or have subscribed to a Skype monthly plan then you can call landlines and cellphones for cheap.

We like the Skype monthly subscription because for $2.99 a month you can make unlimited to calls to the US. We set it up before we go to Mexico and cancel it as soon as we get back home.
