If you are visiting Punta Sur can you use the beach facilities at Papito's without purchasing a package excursion? It says visitors are limited on Papito's website but on Punta Sur's site it says there are beach facilities and hammocks available with entrance fee. Can you plunk down on other parts of the beach, or is it protected for turtle nesting?

Yes, the original facilities are beyond Papito's including hammocks, chairs, a snack bar, and bathrooms/outside showers.  There is no additional charge for enjoying the beach area and the snorkeling is excellent if you swim out to the reef.  You may wish to rent a life jacket if you are not a strong swimmer.

It is closed on Sunday.....it was only open on Sunday for about two months during high season. It not too bad during the week as long as you go down to the last older (original) palapa and snack bar.

Have the facilities in the old section been upgraded in the past few years. We're back in 3 weeks. Love the beach but hated the plastic beach sleds you had to sit on?
