Hello All -

We are in the process of moving here and are here for a week setting up and heard (word of mouth) that there had been a fire at the place where they build the Carnival floats. Does anyone have any info on this, extent of damage, etc...?

Yes, it happened Sunday afternoon during the middle of the Ironman.  Damage was extensive.  According to the newspaper reports, not only were Carnival floats and decorations lost, but also Christmas decorations.  I believe there was smoke inhalation injuries, but no other serious injuries or deaths.

I am on the island but heard about it while we were in Isla Mujeres as it is adjacent to my brother in laws business. We drove by when we got back but the damage was contained in the carnival building itself with a collapsed roof but the walls standing. Several pieces of floats had bee stored outside and were not damaged.

Glad to hear there were no serious injuries but sorry to hear about the loss. At least some were outside. Thanks for the update.
