Okay, the things you do a few days ahead list is so you beat the last minute rush to the hardware and grocery stores and the gas station.
A lot of local folks tend to be 'What me worry?' and are very last minute about preparations for a storm. Also they don't want to spend the cash any earlier than they have to -- especially in these hard times. So you can get the drop on long lines and scarcity of supplies by following the advice in this thread.

This is only if there is a decent probability of a hurricane -- not a sure thing. Because you can always use this stuff in any case.

I'll start:

Get gas -- enough for 10 days on your generator if you have one, and fill up your gas tank. Lines get long when the barrel is pointing for sure right at us.

Get water -- enough for 5 days minimum??

Check to be sure you have all tools you'll need, all hardware. Stores will be packed and supplies diminish or disappear when a storm is about to hit.

Bring in hurricane food supplies: dried nuts and fruit are good, canned tuna.

Buy booze before they cut it off which, in this administration is early.

What else?
