COZUMEL CITY GOVERNMENT HOPES TO RAISE RECORD FUNDS THIS YEAR
Last year the monies Cozumel's Public Works Department received from various sources including taxes, Federal and state grants, etc, came to 303 million pesos and in 2008 it was 197 million. Youseff Salim Achac is aiming for 500 million for 2010.
Things the city says it's planning to do this year include new terracerias (??what is that?? anyone?), new paving, park benches and public illumination, a network for drainage and potable water and absorption wells. This in addition to the more important short term work that includes modernizing the firemen's building, construction of two parks in the San Miguel neighborhood, upgrading, making improvements to San Gervasio and building a center of victims of violence.

Terracerias refers to dirt or graded roads. I don't know if this pertains to the new truck ferry pier which I hear will be connected to Avenue 30th and will one day have a feeder road via an extension of 20th avenue. It will be interesting to see how the trucks will line up when Aviomar doesn't run for a few days, either from weather issues, or because they didn't feel like it or maybe their 30 year old vessels need days off to rest.
